EALING ART GROUP
NEWS & NOTES
Exhibition in Marcq-en-Baroeul 2015
This year, as part of our efforts to celebrate Ealing Art Group's centenary year, we were lucky enough to be able to have an exhibition in Ealing's Twin Town, Marcq-en-Baroeul, thanks to the great generosity of their Town Council and the help and support of their Twin Town Association, without whom it would never have been possible.
The venue we were offered was the Old Forge, a historical landmark in the old town, with an actual old forge on one side and a very well lit exhibition area at the rear.
27 painters and 4 craft artists took part and the work was very displayed, either on the wall or in glass display cases, and was much appreciated by the many visitors we had, which included a party visiting from Ealing and their host host families, plus many local invitees. Indeed, the Mayor greeted us at the start of the exhibition and spent quite some time speaking to us about our group before going on to a political meeting (our visit coincided with elections in France) and the exhibition was formally opened by the Councillor for International Relations. Other Councilllors also attended and we were interviewed by the regional newspaper for North-East France, La Voix du Nord (a photo and short article appeared about our group the following week).
It should be emphasised that the space, hospitality and publicity were all given to us free of charge and, at some stage, we will have to find a way of reciprocating this generosity. Although it was a very short exhibition, everyone concerned was very pleased with the reception it received, both from a goodwill point of view and as a public relations exercise and hopefully, will be a forerunner of activities to come and greater collaboration with our French counterparts.
Gordon Cookson and his friends from the Middlesex Woodturners Assoc. are exhibiting and demonstrating at the Great Missenden Food Festival off the A413 over the Easter Weekend Friday March 25th to Monday 28th .
